Red, White & Blue Day

Red, White and Blue Day is run jointly by ABF The Soldiers' Charity, The RAF Benevolent Fund and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. Each of these three charities is responsible for the welfare of soldiers, sailors and airmen and their families. On Thursday 15th October our school chose to support this national initiative. We currently have 28 children from Service families in the school and Red, White and Blue Day was a chance for our school to show support for the huge number of Service families in the UK by dressing in red, white and blue for a contribution of £1 to go to the charity.

Mrs Spencer and Helen Brettell, our Service Children’s Support Co-ordinator,  led a special assembly to celebrate the contribution of our Service families within the Community, on Thursday at 9.15am.  All our Service families were invited to attend the assembly and Mrs Spencer and Mrs Brettell shared an informative presentation highlighting the work of the Army, Navy and RAF as well as sharing experiences of Service Children and their families in our school.

Feedback from the assembly:
Such a fantastic assembly! Helen, Jo and the John Hampden School provide such a valuable service to military children and their families. Helen particularly, has helped our daughter immensely during the transition period that she is currently going through. Thank you!

It's always lovely to be invited into the school and made  part of the assembly. It's great when parents stand up and speak to the children.

Very enjoyable and it gives the children an opportunity to see what their parents do while they are at school. It is also useful to the parents as it acts as a reminder as to what support network is available to them. Thank you

It's great to know the support  for my child is available if we ever need it. Brilliant that you have an assembly to highlight the importance of our armed forces.
